Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport — Lomé

Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport (AIGE) is Togo's main air gateway, located between the Bè-Kpota and Hédzranawoé districts, in the Golfe 2 commune.

History

Lomé's new airport was inaugurated in 1972. The runway was extended to 3,000 meters in 1977. In 1982, a second Togolese airport was built in Niamtougou, while Lomé's was renovated in 1988.

The new terminal (2012-2016)

Construction of a new terminal, covering 21,000 m², began on August 15, 2012. The new terminal — featuring a main hall with 24 check-in counters — was inaugurated on April 25, 2016 by President Faure Gnassingbé.

Management

The airport has been managed since 1986 by the Société Aéroportuaire de Lomé Tokoin (SALT).

Airlines and regional role

The airport has seen notable growth thanks to the presence of pan-African carrier Asky Airlines, headquartered in Lomé, which has made it its main connecting hub for West and Central Africa.

Historically, direct flights between Lomé and Paris began with UTA, later continuing with Air Afrique.
