Togolese National Identity Card (CNI)

The National Identity Card (CNI) is the official identity document for Togolese citizens. It is issued by the Direction Générale de la Documentation Nationale (DGDN) — not by ONI, which this procedure is often confused with.

⚠️ Important: This procedure is not yet digitalized. You must apply in person at a physical office. Always check current information on dgdn.gouv.tg or service-public.gouv.tg before starting your application.

Required documents (first application)

  1. Original birth certificate
  2. Original Togolese nationality certificate
  3. Proof of profession or diploma
  4. Blood type certificate
  5. Marriage certificate (for married women)
  6. Divorce certificate (for divorced individuals)
  7. Spouse's death certificate (for widows/widowers)

Procedure

  1. Go to the DGDN or a data collection center (police stations and public security posts in Lomé, or prefectures elsewhere)
  2. Pick up and fill out the application form
  3. Submit the required documents at the counter
  4. Pay the issuance fee
  5. Receive a receipt
  6. Return to collect your CNI within the stated timeframe

Validity

The Togolese CNI is valid for 5 years from its issuance date.
