National identity card in Togo: documents, 5,000 FCFA and 5-year validity

General Directorate of National Documentation (DGDN)

For the Togolese CNI, everything hinges on the documents. The official public service portal and the General Directorate of National Documentation (DGDN) list them, with the price and the validity. This page repeats them, without an invented delay.

The essentials (information checked on 4 October 2026)

  • Documents: original birth certificate, original certificate of Togolese nationality, proof of occupation or diploma, blood group test certificate, and a 5,000 FCFA receipt.
  • Validity: five years.
  • Where: the DGDN (GTA, 322 R.P.T., Lomé), with collection centres in the police stations of Lomé and the prefectures.
  • The procedure is not online: you go to the counter.

The documents

For a first application, the service-public.gouv.tg portal asks for the original birth certificate, the original certificate of Togolese nationality, proof of occupation or diploma and a blood group test certificate. Depending on your situation, add: a marriage certificate for married women, a divorce certificate for divorced people, a spouse's death certificate for widows.

The DGDN gives the cost: a 5,000 FCFA receipt, in the list of documents. For a renewal the list is the same, and it applies to any Togolese citizen whose card has expired.

Where to apply

Any Togolese citizen can apply for a national identity card. Data collection centres are in all Public Security police stations in Lomé and in the prefectures, according to the DGDN. The DGDN counter is in Lomé: GTA, 322 R.P.T. Published contact: +228 22 50 78 56 or contact@dgdn-togo.tg, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

What the sources do not say

Neither the portal nor the DGDN publishes an issuing delay. Our earlier "two to three weeks" has no official source: do not count on it and ask at the counter. The portal sheet does not give a cost either ("N/A"): the 5,000 FCFA comes from the DGDN page.

The e-ID programme, which assigns a unique identification number, is a separate procedure: see e-ID Togo: the biometric identification programme.
